From alcoholic to triathlete
Tell us your story - Bimmer has struggled with addiction but got himself out of it and now he is doing long-distance triathlon - in both KMD Challenge Aarhus and KMD Challenge Copenhagen.
Read his own story here as the next in line in the "Tell us your story"-competition.
The basics
My name is Bimmer Hejn. I'm 42 year of age and the father of 4 children.
I am a recovering alcoholic and I had my last drink the 4th of august 2005 after 25 years of drinking.
Why have you chosen to give yourself the challenge of doing a full and a half iron-distance triathlon?
I started to train about a year after I stopped drinking and this is my 4th season as a triatlete. Last year I tried to do my first Ironman in Glücksburgbut but I failed because of a rookie error (not enough electrolytes).

My goal is to finish KMD Challenge Copenhagen in about 11 hours and do KMD Challenge Aarhus as preparation in new personal record (sub 5). I would also like to race in the Danish national championship on the olympic distance in my home town.
Why are you doing KMD Challenge Aarhus and KMD Challenge Copenhagen?
The reason that I want to Race at KMD Challenge Copenhagen and KMD Challenge Aarhus is that I feel like it's a privilige to get a chance to race in two large triathlon events in my home contry.
I would also like to show the people that are out there and still suffering with addictions, that it's not too late and there is hope for a better life..
What motivates you?
I am my own coach and it motivates me to do a perfect training program and feel that it works...and se the proggres..
Stay strong!
Bimmer :-)
