Principia sees great potential in triathlon and Challenge Copenhagen

The Danish producer of high-end race bikes, Principia, is new sponsor and partner for Northern Europe’s largest triathlon event, Challenge Copenhagen. Around 2000 participants will race on “Principia bike course” on August 15 2010 when they for the first time take on the challenge of the classic iron-distance triathlon: 3.8 km Swim, 180 km bike, and the 42.2 km run.

Challenge Copenhagen is one of Denmark’s biggest and most significant sport events in 2010. It is the first time ever that a triathlon event of this size will be held in a capital. The organisers expect around 2000 participants from more than 35 nations; all divided on both single starters and relay teams. Challenge Copenhagen will be an annual event and Principia have signed a three year sponsor deal.

We see great potential in Challenge Copenhagen and Danish triathlon in general. This is a sport that is evolving rapidly at the moment, and of course with our knowledge and experience from many years in this industry we can contribute with quality equipment for both racing and time trial bikes,” says Bjarke Schmidt Nielsen, from Principia.

New time trial bike

Principia is currently in the process of developing a new triathlon and time trial bike, which of course adhere to the classical Principia virtues of light weight, high stiffness and the “less is more” design. This new bike will be a serious competitor to the already established time trial bikes on the market. It will be introduced in the late summer.

We are extremely happy about the cooperation with Principia. They stand for the same high standards as participants can expect at Challenge Copenhagen. Together with our other sponsors, Craft, Playitas and Radisson Blu, Principia will help support Challenge Copenhagen’s position as an event that attract and gather some of Scandinavia’s biggest and best players within the industry of triathlon and endurance sports” says Thomas Veje Olsen, Challenge Copenhagen.

Challenge Copenhagen runs for a period of five days in the heart of Copenhagen. The triathlon expo opens Thursday the 12. August, where exhibitors from all over Europe will show all the latest triathlon trends. There will also be held exercise triathlons on both the Friday and Saturday before finally the main iron-distance event on the Sunday.
