Great race. Had a really good day. Only one comment....

Did anyone else notice that the older you were the shorter the time you had to complete the race.

Most IM races have a mass start, so everyone starts at the same time and you all have the same time to complete the race.
The race started at 7.00 but in my age group 50-54 it started at 7.55 so we have 55 mins less time to complete the race. This seems odd given the older guys are more likley to need longer. One of the guys in our club just got in with 10 mins to spare but had almost 1 hour less than the youger entrants. This cant be fair ! I wonder how many didnt complete in time who were in this situation ???

I could be wrong but the time starts when you start your swim so you have exatly the same amount of time. The only thing you will be hit by in the later groups, is a shorter swim cut off but you still have 2 hours which is officially what the cut off is..i think. If its 15 hours to finish then its 15 from when you start not from when the first pro starts.

I also started at 7.55 and I am 34 years old and I started with a friend almost the same age as I, so I don’t think that the start groups were based on age. When you signed in for Challenge Copenhagen, you were asked about your estimated racetime. I can’t remember what I wrote, but it could be 12 hours and 30 min. At racebriefing (in Danish) they told that the women and very slow men started in wave 2, 7:05. Yes, those guys/girls starting at 7:05 have 50 minutes advantages, according to the cut off times during the race (for example the cut off time for the swim was 10:10, T1 closing 10:20 etc.)

Thanks for an amazing race.

Hi

The way they put people in the startgroups were not logic.

I also started in the group at 07:55, and I am 33 years old. And when I signed up, I wrote that my estimated finish time would be in 13,5 hours...

My friend who is 34 years old also started at 07:55, and he wrote an estimated finish time on 12,5 hours...

I know that Rolf Sørensen and Steen Tinning started at 07:15, and they are both in age group 45-49. And I guess that their expected finishtimes were NOT above 12 hours...

So I do not see any logic... Other that pros, women and VIP runners started early...

But as long as everybody has 15 hours to finish the race, then I do not think it as a problem...

It actually seems to be quite logical:
Generally, you want the faster competitors to start earlier in order to minimize the overtakings and to avoid overcrowding, in particular on the swim course and the earlier stages of the run course. Accordingly, the pros started the first and then the slower your estimated finish time the later you start (my estimated finish time was 11h and my start was at 7:35).
The only problem with that is that the slowest competitors would have the least time to complete the race as the finish closes at 23 o'clock. In order to give those athletes (a relatively low number for whom the cut off time is a problem) more time they were moved into the start group at 7:05. These few athletes were then overtaken during the swim and early stages of the bike by a lot of athletes who started later (which may have been a bit frustrating/demoralizing).
Overall, I think that starting order made a lot of sense.

Seen from my perspective it was not so great that the women started first and the next group was very fast guys and they came with high speed and almost swam over me/us hitting-kicking -when I was at perhaps 2100-2300 meter -it became very difficult to swim for some 500 meters.
- I am very satisfied with the arrangement as a whole - but smaller improvements could be great.
